| On April
2nd, 2008, while attending the 32nd Annual National Legislative
Conference in Washington D.C. Suffolk’s own Vinny Alba
was presented with the highly regarded Barney Barns award.
Vinny was presented this award by New Hampshire Agent Thomas
Winkler, CIC and Chair of the IIABA Governmental Affairs Committee.
The Barney Burns Award, is presented annually to the agent
or broker who makes the most significant impact on IIABA’s
Federal PAC fundraising efforts.
Vincent Alba serves as Chair of the New York InsurPac Committee
and has worked tirelessly making hundreds of phone calls and
attending numerous meetings on behalf of Insur Pac. For the
year 2007, New York Insur Pac raised close to $50,000 most
of which came in due to Vinny’s efforts and the help
of the IIABA Matching Funds program. This year, Vinny and
NY InsurPac are off to another good start, having raised more
than $20,000 during the first quarter of 2008!
This award came as a total surprise to Vinny who was seated
in the front row of the meeting to get the great photos he
takes for us each year. When he got up to accept the award
he again made a succinct plea, stating to the thousand or
so agents and company people in the audience “ I want
to thank all of you who have contributed to InsurPac and to
those of you who haven’t, what are you waiting for!”
The payoff apparently came at the National InsurPac table
after the award as donations went from $6,000 to $60,000 by
the end of the event! I think that part of this was no doubt
due to Vinny’s words at the podium.
Congratulation Vinny on this well deserved award – and
